  • Hints on Taking FEMA EMI ICS Courses

Go to http://training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/crslist.asp, this is the Emergency Management Institute for the FEMA Independent Study Program.

Scroll down the page and you will find every publicly available IS ICS course. Note there are four versions of the ICS 100 and 200 courses. Three of these courses are labeled as ICS-100 (or 200) for Federal Disaster Workers, Law Enforcement Personnel and Public Works Workers. While not specified by the National Auxiliary I suggest selecting the basic course version that does not have any of these three specific audiences listed. Your members will want to take:

IS-100 "Introduction to Incident Command System";
IS-200 "ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents";
IS-700 "National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) an Introduction" and
IS-800 "National Resource Plan (NRP), an Introduction

To take one of these courses, click on the course you want to take. For practice, click on IS-700 since this is the one I'm using for this demonstration.

Go to the bottom of the page and double click on "Download Final Exam Questions" and print it out. Now use your back button to go to the page where you double clicked on Download Final Exam Questions, and double click on Option 3 Printable Version - Self Study Guide. Use and review the study guide online - if you print it out you are guaranteed to use a lot of paper and ink!

The test questions should be kept at hand, because the Study Guide provides the answers in basically the same order as the test questions. You can mark the answers as you read the online guide onto your printed question and answer sheet.

After completing the study, you will be directed to take the test. Fill in the "online answer sheet" by copying the answers from the test questions that you already completed. You must also fill in the personal information at the bottom of the answer sheet. Ensure your personal information is correct as this will be recorded at the FEMA EMI Institute and used to return your completion results and certificate.

To receive Auxiliary credit for completion of the FEMA EMI ICS courses within the district the current process is to submit either the email completion notice or a copy of the certificate that you have received from FEMA EMI to your Information Services Officer. On the certificate copy/email please add your Auxiliary employee ID number. The Division IS Officer will make the appropriate report to District level for entry into AUXDATA.

Note that on successful completion of the FEMA EMI courses not only do you receive a certificate recognized by FEMA of attainment of a professional learning knowledge and skills, but you also receive continuing education credit.

Bridges

PATON's

      The PATON page containing tools, forms, information, and a database is located at www.uscgaan.com.   You must be qualified to submit discrepancies, so keep watch for training opportunities listed below under TRAINING.  The ANT needs our services as they don't have the manpower, nor the local knowledge to search the entire coastline.

 Small Craft Facilities

   All the tools, forms, and training material are located at www.uscgaan.com    The power point presentation is outstanding and will walk you through how to check and submit changes if necessary.  This is an area any member can contribute quality reports to NOAA starting today!

 Chart Updating

      This is another area where local knowledge and keen observations can be critical in assisting the Coast Guard with information to prevent accidents at sea.  Find all the information you need at www.uscgaan.com .

Publications
