USCG
- The
exterior restoration of the 1835 Pemaquid Point Lighthouse began the last week of June 2007,
with J.B. Leslie Masonry Contractors of South Berwick, Maine, working to mechanically remove the
old exterior coatings from the tower and cleaning the deteriorated mortar joints. The firm
re-painted the mortar joints and applied a new coating to the lighthouse during the restoration
project, which was expected to span 6 to 8 weeks.
SO-PA Bob Trapani penned a
story on the impressive education work that the Friends of Pemaquid Point
Lighthouse continue to put forth, especially at the moment when the beacon was undergoing an exterior
restoration.
The lighthouse has been open to the public throughout the entire restoration process,
with FPPL volunteers working through the inevitable noise and all to ensure that visitors could
learn about and climb the historic tower in Summer 2007.
