Local Weather InformationThe weather is always an important factor in boating. The experienced skipper will be aware of current and expected weather conditions at all times. Cruising on our lakes is not like being out at sea, but severe storms can come up suddenly without warning. This is especially true in the summer months, when we see many thunderstorms here in the South. What can you do to be prepared and aware? There are many ways. You should monitor the weather broadcast on your VHF radio before and during a cruise. (WX Channel). You can also monitor local media for current and forecast conditions. As with most things in the Auxiliary, some dedicated study of the subject will help. Auxiliary members are urged to take the Auxiliary Specialty Course on Weather. It will prepare you to keep your boat safe and to assist others. See your Member Training Officer for more information and details on applying for the course.
